Since meeting on The Bachelor in 2017, Matty J and Laura Byrne have only gone from strength to strength in their relationship.
After Matty confessed his love for Laura in Thailand during the season five finale, their love grew before our eyes.
“I love you… I think you are so perfect,” a nervous Matty told a crying Laura at the time.
Laura admitted through her tears: “I love you too, I was so ready for you to break my heart.”
Luckily, no hearts were broken. Instead, Matty got down on one knee in Fiji while Laura was pregnant with their first child in 2019.
In June of that year, they welcomed a daughter, Marlie-Mae.
“They’ve been the most rewarding, loving, and emotional I’ve ever experienced,” Matty J wrote on Instagram.
“Laura, you did the most incredible job bringing our little girl Marlie-Mae Rose Johnson into the world. Becoming a Dad was better than I ever could have imagined.”
Two years later, their family grew as they welcomed their second daughter, Lola.
“I said I would eat my own poop if you were a girl, and yet HERE YOU ARE!” Laura wrote on Instagram at the time.
“Already teaching me the worldly life lessons that come with being a mama – such as, just because I feel something to be true (in my waters) doesn’t mean it is, and not to make promises to @matthewdavidjohnson that I 100% do not intend on keeping.
“You are perfection. You are dynamite. We love you and your 95th percentile head endlessly.”
With Marlie-Mae and Lola as flower girls, Matty and Laura finally tied the knot in November 2022 at Cupitts Estate Winery just outside Mollymook, NSW.
“Falling in love on TV is so crazy, but it worked for us. I got to marry my best friend, and we couldn’t be happier,” Laura told our sister site WHO at the time.

Speaking with Stellar, the couple have revealed the name of their future daughter.
“We are absolutely excited and we cannot wait to meet this little girl, Poppy,” Matty said as a guest on the publication’s podcast Something To Talk About. “But the reaction from people definitely makes you a little more guarded and apprehensive about what life is gonna be like once they arrive.”
While they are excited, the parents of two were also preparing for the new addition.
“I think I’ve almost over-prepared for it being horrible and hard,” Laura explained. “Is it gonna be easy? Absolutely not. Is adding another [child] ever easy? No. But I think I feel the most relaxed about this [child’ than I ever have been.”
It comes months after the couple announced that their family is growing from four to five!
Speaking on her podcast Life Uncut in April, the former Bachelor contestant revealed she found out she was pregnant while Matty was on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, and was unable to tell him while he was in the jungle.
“The big news is, so you guys know that Matt and I have been talking a lot about whether or not we were going to have baby number three…and it turns out WE’RE HAVING BABY NUMBER THREE!” she gushed. “It turns out for a very short period Matt and I got on the same page on whether we wanted [a third].”
She continued to say she was 18 weeks pregnant at the time, and even kept it secret from her husband for “two-and-a-half months”. Laura said they were initially not on the same page about having a third child, but they came around.
When it came to telling Matty about the news, Laura wanted to wait until the finale aired and give him time to process his experience on the show.
The former Bachelor also broke the news on his podcast Two Doting Dads.
“[It’s] an October baby. We were trying before I went into the jungle. The plan was, we said this year, 2025, if we were going to have a third, this will be the year that it happens,” he said.
“I’m conscious that Marlie and Lola are really close together, they’re about 18 months [apart] and Lola just turned four, so I was like if it doesn’t happen this year, it’s a big gap…We want the third child to still be friends with Marlie and Lola.
“We said we were going to try, and we said if it doesn’t happen before the jungle, by the time I come back, it’s going to be February, then it is pushing into 2026. I said to Laura that if I make it to the end of the jungle to tell me. If you find out you’re pregnant while I am away, come on the show and tell me. Obviously, she didn’t tell me, and it wasn’t front of mind, and we came back from the jungle…”
Their youngest, Lola, even shared her excitement, which was posted in a joint Instagram post. “I’ve got a baby in my mum’s tummy!” she gushed excitedly, and said she wanted her new sibling born immediately.
Following their separate announcements, Matty joined Laura on her afternoon radio show The Pick Up to reveal the sex of their baby. For the occasion, Laura cut into a cake which contained pink icing, which means they’re having a girl!
“We are so lucky to have two little girls. And thinking about three little sisters together. It’s gonna be amazing,” Laura said on the live radio show, which she hosts with Brittany Hockley.
