A paramedic arrived at the site of a motorcycle crash to find his 14-year-old son lying limp on the ground.
Philip Butler received a call to a collision in Auckland and spotted two of his family as he stepped out of the ambulance.
His son Benjamin had been riding pillion on a motorbike being driven by his uncle when the rear wheel burst and the pair crashed into oncoming traffic.
Hearing his son screaming, Philip says he knew his son was still conscious.
Benjamin suffered a broken collar bone and serious concussion while his uncle broke seven ribs, punctured his lung, fractured a collar bone, scapula and shoulder blade.
